Arsenal launched their new kit for the 2022-23 season and immediately got trolled about the Europa League.
The Gunners look set to play in Europe’s second-tier competition next year after a disastrous end to the campaign. Mikel Arteta’s side appeared nail on for the Champions League spot, but back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Newcastle have handed the initiative to their north London rivals.
Arsenal need to beat Everton and hope that Spurs lose to already-relegated Norwich City on the final day if they want to regain their place in the top-four – a scenario that looks unlikely. And with the Europa League seemingly now odds-on for the Gunners next term, the club’s new kit launch took a hammering on social media.
“Best kit in the Europa league competition,” wrote one jokester. Someone else added: “Gonna look class with Europa league badges on it.”
A third person slammed the design and commented: “Someone said that Arsenal kit was designed specifically for Europa League next season, you can’t play UCL with such a mediocre kit.”

A fourth user chimed in with: “That’s gonna look so good against Carrier Bag FC in the Europa League. Shame it can’t be seen against Real Madrid in the Champions League.”
“The Arsenal kits looks low quality. Maybe it’s because it’s for Europa League,” moaned someone else. Arsenal have pledged to give £5 from every kit sold to the Arsenal Foundation.
But even that was met with gallows humour by one fan, who said: “You’re not giving anything back, all you do is take. Life expectancy and happiness especially.”
Gunners boss Arteta admitted his side were “nowhere near” the level required to play in the Champions League after their dismal 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday night.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s extremely disappointing that Newcastle were 10 times better than us and the performance was nowhere near the level we need to be at if we want to play in the Champions League.
“I am incredibly disappointed. It’s a very painful one. It was in our hands and today it’s not in our hands. We have to beat Everton and wait for Norwich to beat Spurs. There’s always a tiny chance in football.”
