Before you know it stadiums across the Lowcountry will fill with all the sights, sounds and excitement of Friday night football.
South Carolina High School League football teams opened practice for their 2022 season July 29. Athletes laced up their cleats, put on helmets and resumed the activities designed to get them prepared for competition this Fall.
Public school teams can participate in scrimmages/jamborees as early as Aug. 4. Many teams will crank up their regular season Aug. 19 during Week 0.
The annual Dorchester County Showdown is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Summerville’s Memorial Stadium. The jamboree will feature the Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, Summerville and Woodland varsity and JV teams. Tickets are available through an eventbrite.com link on the Dorchester County Showdown Facebook page.
Ashley Ridge opens the regular season Aug. 26 with a game at Cane Bay. Home games scheduled for the Swamp Foxes include contests against Conway Sept. 2, St. James Sept. 16, Wando Sept. 23, Fort Dorchester Sept. 30, West Ashley Oct. 7 and Stall Oct. 28.
Fort Dorchester opens its season by hosting Beaufort Aug. 26. Other home games for the Patriots are scheduled against Clearwater Academy International out of Florida Sept. 9, Goose Creek Oct. 7, Stall Oct. 14 and Summerville Oct. 28.
Summerville opens its season by hosting Carolina Forest Aug. 26. Other home games for the Green Wave are scheduled against Wando Sept. 9, Stratford Sept. 30, West Ashley Oct. 14 and Ashley Ridge Oct. 21.
