The fifth annual Moncks Corner Lions Club jamboree will light up Berkeley High School’s Gerald Moody Field in less than two weeks.
Eight high school football teams, including the host Stags, will suit up Aug. 12 when helmets clash and the stands are as loud as they’ve been since last fall. The event kicks off at 6 p.m.
Admission is $8 and each contest is two quarters.
Final scores won’t count but coaches will be looking for execution on both sides of the ball and players who can help them in the 2022 season. Fans could even catch a glimpse of a future standout for their favorite team they don’t already know about.
Six of the eight squads competing are Berkeley County programs. Two others make a quick trip over from neighboring counties.
Class AAAAA Cane Bay and Class AA Andrews spark the jamboree, followed by Class AAAAA Goose Creek and Class AAA Hanahan in the second period.
At halftime, cheerleaders representing each school are set compete in a long toss event.
Class AAAAA Stratford tangles with Class AAA Philip Simmons in the third period, followed by Class AAAAA Berkeley and Class AAAA Colleton County in the finale.
High school football teams can practice for the first time July 29 and participate in scrimmages/jamborees as early as Aug. 4. Many teams will crank up their regular seasons in Week 0 on Aug. 19.
The first full week of the season is Aug. 26.
