It’s impossible to quantify experience and the impact it has on a college football program. Returning production is often paramount to success given a player’s comfort level and his fit within a respective scheme. The transfer portal has bucked that trend a bit in recent years, but veteran leadership in terms of production can never be understated.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly recently revealed his SP+ rankings update across college football heading into summer and with that calculated every FBS program’s returning production compared to others. All 14 SEC programs are included in the top 100, but none are inside the top 10.
By comparison to other perceived preseason elites, N.C. State leads the ACC with 17 returning starters, which gives the Wolfpack a returning production of 82%, which ranks ninth-best nationally. The closest from the SEC’s standpoint is at 78%, respectively.
